21 days to improve your writing

Somebody in your office told you that you don't write that good. You felt hurt. You wanted to scream at that person. How dare he / she speak to me like this? What the hell he / she knows about writing? You kept on repeating this again and again deep within.

But somewhere you too knew that your writing doesn't dance, doesn't sparkle, doesn't inspire. You do read one book or two a month but that didn't help you much. And now you wish you could do something magical about your writing. Something that could infuse new energy, new life in your words.

Sorry dear, but magicians and magics exist in only stories. So nothing magical is going to happen overnight.

What possibly can happen is you making your mind to life-long learning. That's the only way out. But there are always quick-fixes. And that's what I'll be sharing with you in this post.

So, what i need from you is 2 hours every day for 21 days.

Here's what you need to do to improve your writing in just 21 days:

1st day

Set-up a blog on WordPress or here on Blogspot.

And write one post (of about 300 to 500 words) every day. Every day for 21 days. Believe me, your writing will improve.

2nd day

Buy a couple of books on grammar and writing

For grammar, buy Woe Is I: The Grammarphobe's Guide to Better English in Plain English(Third Edition)

I have this book. And I can vouch for it. You will learn a lot about grammar that you'll be able to put in your writing quickly.

Then you should read a couple of books on reading.

Begin with Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life I have ordered this book from Amazon. Have read a lot about this book. So I'm very excited.

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft is another book on writing that you should read and learn from.

For the next 21 days, read through these books. You'll be learning from the masters. And the lessons would be worth the time and money.

Day 3

In my six years of journey as a writer, I have come across a few blogs that I religiously follow. Here are those blogs:

CopyBlogger

I have learnt a lot from CopyBlogger. About writing titles of blog posts. About how to write your first paragraph. About how to end and add a CTA (call to action) at the end of the post.

Enchanting Marketing

Henneke is a magician. Do sign up for her snack course - they're fun to read and learn from.
